Lascaux Caves

January 3, 2016

The paintings found in the Lascaux cave are some of the oldest pieces of art known to men, estimated to be 17,300 years old. Discovered by teenagers in the South West of France in 1940.

Inside the cavern they were found approximately 1500 animal paintings from the Paleolithic era. Some theories say they’re purpose was in magic rituals to have control over the beasts and to attract them to their territory in times of shortage.
